Women's Soccer Travels to Georgia for Two Games

Weekend of games starts with Tusculum and ends with Wingate

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Looking to build upon its 2-1 victory over No. 19 West Florida (1-1), the Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (1-0) will play Tusculum (1-1) and Wingate (0-1) in Milledgeville, Ga this weekend.

The Sharks received votes for the NCAA Division II top-25 this week and a successful weekend could push them into the top-25 next week.

The first match of the weekend is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 against Tusculum. The Sharks are 1-0 all-time against Tusculum, winning the previous match, 3-0, in 2008 against the then No. 11 Tusculum. Lindsey Nowland (Sr., Cape Coral, Fla.), Chrissy Hy (Sr., Endicott, N.Y.) (1-0) and former Sharks player and current assistant coach Shurell Burton are the only holdovers from that team.

Nowland made her Sharks debut playing 90 minutes and Burton contributed two assists during the match. Although Hy did not play, she should see plenty of action Friday if she can duplicate her one goal allowed, four save, 90-minute winning performance against West Florida.

The Sharks can anticipate facing Marissa Williams (1-1) in goal for Tusculum, she started and played the full 90 minutes in its first two matches. She has allowed 4 goals and made 13 saves this season.

Tramicka James is the most aggressive offensive player for Tusculum thus far in the season. She has attempted 60 percent of the Pioneers shots, six shots on goal, and scored three goals.

On the other hand, the Sharks featured a more balanced attack in their first game with nine players taking a total of 13 shots. Both Dilja Olafsdottir (So., Reykjavik, Iceland) and Briana Hanly (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored a goal against West Florida, the first of their collegiate careers.

After a day off Saturday, the Sharks will face Wingate on Sunday Sept. 11, at 11 a.m., for the first time in team history.

Wingate enters the contest after losing to Lander (2-0), 3-2. AJ Lightbody and Hannah Holsclaw scored a goal each for Wingate. Miriam Boucher (0-1) played all 90 minutes in goal for Wingate allowing three goals and recording zero saves.
